Two Brooklyn MOMS go COMMANDO in the Park after School-Commando Black Opaque Tights are Great!
Today with the nip of Fall in the air I decided to wear my new pair of Commando Black Opaque Tights! These tights have been called the must have Black Opaque Tights by Lucky Magazine and Fashion Bloggers 2 years running.
Both styles of Commando Products are available at PeekBrooklyn.com
I am never one to jump on the band wagon with trends, so I decided to take the bait and try what are called the Best Black Opaque Tights. So I headed over to PeekBrooklyn.com to purchase these magic tights.
The Commando Black Opaque Tights have a 70 Denier and a no dig waistband, the signature of Commando's other products most specifically their underwear.
First I tested their denier with the stretching of the tights over many hand...Not too bad, not as black as a 70 denier typically is, but very good. They are so soft and luxe!
So then the outfit, with the seamless waistband on the tights the possibilities were endless. Then I remember the lace tunic I bought a while back that would have to be worn before the cold weather comes. So laying many slips including a Commando Slip, I discovered that Lucky Magazine, the Bloggers and Emily Blunt were onto something.
THESE are the MOST COMFORTABLE TIGHTS I have ever WORN! That is was a big shock to me since I own more then 300pairs of tights, and I wear tights every single day!
I wore them all day, and felt like I was sitting in my yoga pants. Then it was off to the park for some play time with Max. I get there and my pal Tammy was wearing a pair of the Commando Black Leggings!
They are sophisticated black tights that you can also have a good run around in!

The difference between Stockings, Hold Ups, Tights and Leggings!
After posting the poll earlier this week, I have been flooded with questions about what the difference is between Stockings, Hold-Ups, Tights and Leggings. In fact my co-workers and I were just discussing the confusion and differences. So an in depth description is definitely necessary.
Lets start with Tights-The definition of tights: a piece of clothing made of a thin stretchy material which covers the leg and lower part of the body below the waist, and which is worn by women and girls. (Sometimes-wink- the brand Gerbe make a fantastic collection for Men as do most Italian manufactures)
Tights come in all different colors, sizes and patterns. They can be funky or conservative and can either make you look polished or ready to go out on the town. Unlike Pantyhose which are usually more neutral in color as if having a bare leg with out texture or style as far as I am concerned and incredibly uncomfortable if they have control top.
Next Leggings-are tight, form-fitting trousers that extend from the waist to the ankles; Leggings are typically made from a blend of Lycra, and either nylon, cotton, or a cotton-polyester blend. However, leggings can also be made from wool, silk, and various synthetic fabrics and can be completely opaque or patterned. In recent years have been come more fashionable and can be worn alone or with a tunic type top. I like Leggings, not my favorite trend as far as Hosiery, but they are great worn with boots so that you don’t wear out the heels of your tights. They are come in denim and are called “Jeggings”.
On to my favorite form of leg wear - Hold Ups. I prefer these to tights and come in the same or more variety as far awesome patterns you can get. Hold Ups are stockings that can be worn with or without suspenders. They glamour of stockings with the convenience of tights! Hold Ups, unlike stockings come in a wide variety of textures, materials and patterns. They are usually made from nylon or a Lycra blend. They are both sexy and functional for daily wear. They are harder to find in the States and are far more comfortable then tights.
Finally Stockings, the common misconception is that all of the above are in face “stockings” which is not true. The history of the word Stocking -The use of stocking to mean a leg covering may have arisen from the blackly humorous comparison of the stocks in which people's legs were restrained as punishment with "leggings, hose." Until comparatively recently stocking was a unisex term (as it still is in the expression "in your stockinged feet"); the restriction to women's hose is a 20th-century development since prior stockings were worn mostly by men. Modern usage of the word stockings generally refers to thigh high nylon stockings, two matching pieces, and depending on the design, can be quite sensual. Stockings usually come in nylon or in Silk and have to be worn with Garters or a Garter belt. These can even go a few steps further and become fully fashioned. Which are by far the most beautiful and classic.

The Perfect Pair of Black Opaque Tights denier 50+ Definition of Denier
Its hard to find the perfect pair of black opaque tights. All too often they can be too sheer, or if they are too dark look blue!
When searching for the perfect pair of opaque black tights it's important take note of the Denier.
Denier is the unit of measurement of hosiery. The unit measures the thickness/weight of a finely spun fiber nylon, silk or spandex. They begin as low as 5 and can go as high 110+. The higher the Denier, the thicker more opaque the tight, and the lower the number the more transparent. From sheer to opaque.
When it comes to black tights, the denier can make the outfit.

Whenever I wear 100 Den I think of that lady we all see on the train all in black with tiny sophisicated glasses and a chunky necklace off to curate a show at MAD or MOMA, maybe this will be Kate, my sister, in a few years!
Tonight's tights are my Commando Ink Black Tights from PeekBrooklyn.Com. They are soft durable and opaque black enough to make it acceptable to wear open toe shoes. Voted best opaque tights by Lucky Magazine!

Wolford 5 Denier
Wolford 15 Denier
10-20 denier always make me think of an old Italian Grandma dressed all in black ( Sorry Grandma!)

40-60 Denier are a classy addition to any hipster ensemble
Notice how microfiber looks heavier then regular nylon or rayon blends
...and finally the 100 Den, as we say, are great for anyone and are a staple of any good hosiery collection,
Falke 110 Denier

General rule of thumb, if you wear open toe shoes please make sure they are sandal foot!
If you love opaque tights also check out the B.Ella 90 Denier
They are the softest black opaque tight around!

Play Me Burlesque Launch Party in my favorite Cervin Tights and Kate in Fab Fishnets!
On the rare occasion that I get to go out on a school night, I want to do it in style. So Kate and I stepped out and attended the launch party of Play Me Burlesque a deck of cards dedicated to the alluring women of the NYC Burlesque Scene. This buxom deck was created by Malgorzata (Maggie) Saniewska a talented photographer. Her vision - bewitchingly executed on 54 beautiful cards. They include the alluring Medianoche, the charasmatic Nasty Canasta, the graceful Peekaboo Pointe and vivacious Gigi La Femme not to mention 50 women equally as talented and endowed- Deal em!
For the event I wore my favorite Cervin tights, adorned with feathers. They made me feel as if I was going to take the stage and perform...just with all my clothes on- this time!
Kate is wearing a saucy pair of Calzedonia Fishnets with a lace peek panel. Her long legs really show off the top detailing of this pair.
I hope we keep your interested PEEKED! We have lots to share, and will take it all off on September 23!

I'm BACK!! in Fall's hottest trend in hosiery the Polka Dot tight
After a brief Hiatus well not really brief but Max's summer vacation- I am BACK! and in full force...
Max and I had an amazing summer plenty of swimming in the ocean playing at the park and enjoying the last summer before he begins Public School, which he did on Sept 8th. Which was very exciting, and brings us both to the next chapter in our lives. Mine is PEEK Brooklyn, an on-line hosiery boutique that will carry a selection of hand picked hosiery by me from around the world "The Finest Hosiery the world has to offer" Which is a carefully mastered plan that has taken me a full year to execute, and will take me the rest of my life to perfect god willing of course.
To kick things off in to full gear I am wearing the hottest trend in hosiery at the moment; the Polka Dot Tight. I very much wanted to sport the Falke Polka Dot tight that is all over Vogue or the Wolford Polka Dots. But, I am wearing the Sneaky Fox Dots that I purchased from ModCloth
In about 2 weeks you will be able to purchase the Big Dots from me by the Commando Brand. Until then keep restrain yourselves from purchasing them elsewhere...

Ready to Indie a GO-GO!! Peek Brooklyn
Hi Everyone! So sorry for the delay in writing. Upon returning from the South of France, I immediately was thrown back into full time parenting and have not had a second of time until summer camp started today!
While in the South of France I rediscovered the small hosiery boutique. These beautiful little shops, and when I say little, most were not much bigger the 4 ft by 8 ft, are hidden gems throughout France. While in one of these sort of shops in Nice I was overcome by the shop lady. This little old lady and her basset hound knew every nook and cranny of the store. While searching around the store, and being shown countless varieties of both tights and hold ups in brands that I knew and brands that I had not yet discovered. After talking about my collection briefly she climbed up a small ladder and grabbed a box from the top shelf of a jam packed with unlabeled boxes and pulled out the a pair from three seasons ago that I had coveted, but never had the chance to buy.
Needless to say I walked away from this shopping experience with 4 pairs of tights, and the discovery of what I want to be. I want to be that little old lady in a cluttered store, being the only one that knows my stock and close for an hour for lunch to meet my husband for lunch and know every variety of hosiery and line.
Once the idea was in my head, I couldn't sit still any longer.
Which brings me to IndieGoGo. I will be launching my campaign to raise money for my online Hosiery Emporium.

Delft Tights from Calzedonia
Growing up my grandmother always had delft pottery around her house. The delicate blue and white flowers always remind me of her. These white floral print tights with blue flowers are very reminiscent of a delft pattern.
This being the first time I have worn them since they really needed to brought out in a spectacular way.

While searching the Internet today, I came across this blog vaguepromisses.blogspot.com, this significantly younger girl then myself in Poland has the same Calzeddonia Blue and White Tights on in her daily blog post. While browsing further on her Blog, I discovered she also has quite the collection of Calzedonia tights.

How to wear Leopard Tights in Gray!
I went from having nothing in Leopard print, to having two pairs of Leopard print tights; one in the traditional oranges and black color combination and the other in shades of gray.
This pair of gray leopard print tights are the brand Miss Helen from the Monoprix in Paris.
As the weather begins to warm up, I am always asked if I wear tights in the summer. I wear tight up until June 1. Then after that date-only if its rainy and under 60degrees. I do have "spring" and "summer" tights in light spring colors and weaves. I like most women like tan legs, and having your legs covered makes it hard for them to get tan.

Why ModCloth.com is one of the Best on-line stores!
I am not going to deny that I SHOP a lot. I have more clothes then I could possibly wear, unless you layer layer layer, which I do for that very reason.
I also e-window shop on a daily basis, and when I do my first stop is always modcloth.com. I first discovered ModCloth about a year ago, when the advertisement popped up on my Facebook advertising bar. I have been hooked ever since. Their selection of affordable cute dresses, underpinnings, skirts and TIGHTS is unique and fashion forward.
The price point means you can buy without guilt, unlike its “older” sister Anthropologie where you feel the hit as soon as you purchase, unless its on sale of course. Anthroplogie and Modcloth are not connected . Modcloth.com only do a limited run of things, so you have to buy quick not to miss out. If you do miss out they have one of the best features of any e-commerce store. The notification of restock! Just one click and you are instantly added to a list or eager customers waiting for the product to either be returned or restocked...I have on many occasions used this feature, and missed out.
The quality is hit and miss, that depends on the piece. Some things just look better on-line, it’s the lighting and the Photoshop. But, I have never really been disappointed with a purchase, since there are always reviews and they are usually spot on.
Another feature that is totally awesome is "Be the Buyer" In this tab you can be the buyer of ModCloth, voting on sample pieces. Sadly sometimes they don’t make it online, and I am left feeling disappointed that I will never get to wear such an interesting piece. Other times, there are pieces so hideous that I wonder who on earth would one wear something in such an odd combination of floral and stripes and in that color way. By the time it makes it past the sample stage it is “sometimes” cuter and more interesting....sometimes.
I had the chance to meet them at a job fair, and they truly reflect the brand.
Their inspirationally story of a start-up has inspired me time and time again. I have been toying with the idea of starting an on-line business since I got laid off from Knoll. I think I am finally ready to take the plunge! I will be starting a KICKSTART in the next few weeks. So watch this space.
With the transition of weather we are currently in ( Finally! ) I paired my “English Seaside” dress with a pair of microfiber calzedonia tights in gray. The slip is from Urban

This particular ModCloth dress is called cutely “English Seaside Dress”, when I purchased it I pictured Nathan, Max and I strolling the boardwalk in Brighton eating cotton candy/ Candy Floss and watching the Channel...The closest that dream came to was running around the boardwalk of Rehobeth Beach, riding the tea cups and hoping that Max wouldn’t throw up all over my new dress...
Max is pushing me out to the way in this shot. He wanted to be in the picture

New Brand Obession- Les Queues du Sardines
For my Hoseiry collection I am always on the look out for the most interesting visual take on the season's trends. Normally it's different combinations of dots, lace, faux suspender and floral motifs, In either neutral, black, with the occasional odd Italian color combination.
So when I came across Les Queues du Sardines which means Sardine Tails in French I was blown away by their unconventional style. This indie French brand add humor to the normal every day opaque and sheer tights. The tights are screen printed. Each pair are unique and will never go unnoticed.

Gray and White lace tights
Lace is a popular look this spring, so why should your legs miss out on all the attention
This pair of tights I bought at Anthropologie a year ago. I also have them in black.
They are grey with a printed white lace design. They are very eye-catching, hard to miss especially in contrast to a darker skirt. I have been wearing this skirt a lot lately. Its from H&M.
I have love to wear full circle skirts with cardigan, it makes me feel like I am a fifties housewife.
The cardigan is from Eileen Fisher.
I love adding lace whenever possible to an outfit.
As far as white tights go, I don't particularly care for them although I do personally own opaque white tights, white fishnets and a few white tights that have a crochet type feel. I will try and integrate them into my summer/spring wardrobe. I also have a pair of Cervin white seamed stockings, I wore for my wedding in 2006. .
I feel white tights are only appropriate for small girls preparing for their first Holy Communion or for ballet or to wear with a school uniform.
If you do wear white tights, its important to choose the rest of your outfit wisely. To wear all white, could make you look like a nurse. Pairing it with other neutrals can look both modern and sophisticated. In this grim April month, winter white can be the natural transition to a zesty crisper summer white.
This pair of white lace tights have a light floral motif
This pair of Wolford White Tight, have a Cervon design.
