Sorry for the delay, but check out these new Calzedonia Leopard Polka Dot Tights

Hi, first I would like to formally apologize for not being a better blogger.  I have started my own on-line company named PeekBrooklyn.com which sells the BEST selection of TIGHTS on the web! So it has been taking up all of my time ...which has left NO time for Blogging...

Also, my camera broke which also contributed to not being able to Blog. But, for my birthday my amazing husband bought me a new camera. The Olympus Pen Lite E-PL3 which has totally transformed my blogging experience.

These amazing tights are from the Fall 11 Calzedonia Collection, my personal shopper; Carmen, at the store in London sent them to me along with dozens of the finest pairs from the Fall collection. These tights are a blueish gray with black and gray leopard print, but what makes them stand out the from other leopard print tights is how they fade to a subtle polka-dot. Thus combining two of the hottest trends in hosiery for the Fall 11 season.

I have talked about my worry about wearing Leopard print tights in the past.  I officially own 6 pairs of leopard print tights,  and even a pair of Leopard Print shoes which are more hip then Fran Dresser from the Nanny.

Spring has Sprung...

Finally, it feels like Spring is here!

I have the next month to wear the remaining portion of my NEW spring hosiery. I want to emphasized NEW, as in the tights, over the knee socks and hold ups that I purchased this year or at the end of season last year that I have not worn.

I have boxes devoted to unopened hosiery that I haven't worn, sorted by color, type and brand. There are roughly about 50 pairs that I haven't worn that are for Spring and about 30 pairs for Fall. There are pairs that I have not  yet had the opportunity to wear, and I look at them everyday and hope that it will stay cold a little longer just to wear them...This is in addition to my 300 plus colleciton.

These are from the Spring 11Collection from Calzedonia. In a baby pink floral pattern.

How to wear Leopard Tights in Gray!

I went from having nothing in Leopard print, to having two pairs of Leopard print tights; one in the traditional oranges and black color combination and the other in shades of gray.

This pair of gray leopard print tights are the brand Miss Helen from the Monoprix in Paris.

As the weather begins to warm up, I am always asked if I wear tights in the summer. I wear tight up until June 1. Then after that date-only if its rainy and under 60degrees. I do have "spring" and "summer" tights in light spring colors and weaves. I like most women like tan legs, and having your legs covered makes it hard for them to get tan.

Why ModCloth.com is one of the Best on-line stores!

I am not going to deny that I SHOP a lot. I have more clothes then I could possibly wear, unless you layer layer layer, which I do for that very reason.

I also e-window shop on a daily basis, and when I do my first stop is always modcloth.com. I first discovered ModCloth about a year ago, when the advertisement popped up on my Facebook advertising bar. I have been hooked ever since. Their selection of affordable cute dresses, underpinnings, skirts and TIGHTS is unique and fashion forward.

The price point means you can buy without guilt, unlike its “older” sister Anthropologie where you feel the hit as soon as you purchase, unless its on sale of course. Anthroplogie and Modcloth are not connected . Modcloth.com only do a limited run of things, so you have to buy quick not to miss out. If you do miss out they have one of the best features of any e-commerce store. The notification of restock! Just one click and you are instantly added to a list or eager customers waiting for the product to either be returned or restocked...I have on many occasions used this feature, and missed out.

The quality is hit and miss, that depends on the piece. Some things just look better on-line, it’s the lighting and the Photoshop. But, I have never really been disappointed with a purchase, since there are always reviews and they are usually spot on.

Another feature that is totally awesome is "Be the Buyer" In this tab you can be the buyer of ModCloth, voting on sample pieces. Sadly sometimes they don’t make it online, and I am left feeling disappointed that I will never get to wear such an interesting piece. Other times, there are pieces so hideous that I wonder who on earth would one wear something in such an odd combination of floral and stripes and in that color way. By the time it makes it past the sample stage it is “sometimes” cuter and more interesting....sometimes.

I had the chance to meet them at a job fair, and they truly reflect the brand.
Their inspirationally story of a start-up has inspired me time and time again. I have been toying with the idea of starting an on-line business since I got laid off from Knoll. I think I am finally ready to take the plunge! I will be starting a KICKSTART in the next few weeks. So watch this space.

This particular ModCloth dress is called cutely “English Seaside Dress”, when I purchased it I pictured Nathan, Max and I strolling the boardwalk in Brighton eating cotton candy/ Candy Floss and watching the Channel...The closest that dream came to was running around the boardwalk of Rehobeth Beach, riding the tea cups and hoping that Max wouldn’t throw up all over my new dress...

With the transition of weather we are currently in ( Finally! ) I paired my “English Seaside” dress with a pair of microfiber calzedonia tights in gray. The slip is from Urban

Max is pushing me out to the way in this shot. He wanted to be in the picture

Stocking Around Town with Lydia Kornegay

One of the best aspects of living in New York City is the sheer variety of the way people dress. You can, in just a few minutes, see someone in a complete hipster look, a high end sartorial stance and even someone dressed in newspapers. You never know who that person sitting next to you on the subway is, what they do during the day and who they can become at night.

Where I am currently working, Eileen Fisher, there is a very casual vibe. I guess that is due in part to the clothes that are designed here.  There are a few exceptions and Lydia Kornegay is one of them. Lydia wears both vintage and vintage inspired pieces with flair and allure. Her hosiery collection is both classic and attention-grabbing. Theses beautiful tights she is wearing have a black floral motif with a gray under color. She purchased these at Daffy's a great place to find of the minute trends in Hoisery!

I love the way her shoes and scarf coordinate!

Hunting the Missing Cobra of the Bronx Zoo

We went to the Bronx Zoo this weekend in search of the missing snake. When we arrived we found out that she was found! THANK GOD, because I was very wary of visiting a zoo that had a cobra hiding in some place other than in a contained environment.
I never really liked snakes, but I wouldn't say that I am scared of them. I find them creepy and sneaky...
The Bronx zoo is hosting a competition to name that sly snake that escaped!  Max thinks she should called Slippy

Max and I posing at the Bronz Zoo

I am also using my Thursday Friday Together Bag whenever I can! Its not only stylish and interesting to look at it holds everything! Great for a MOM with style- and a suspicion of snakes!

These are another pair from Nordstroms! I felt these tights were appropriate for the snake hunt! They are a grey slate color with spirals that look like snakes climbing up my legs......

Futuristic Tron Tights

I am always amazed by the variety of hosiery that is out there in this world.  There is something for every style and taste. From the plainest Jane tights to stylish "of the moment" trends. Some of the most amazing hosiery are "of the moment" trends that reflect pop culture or a reinterpretation of a classic.

Trends come and go, but style reamains- and sometimes they can be a total miss or against all fashion odds- successful. The  tights I am wearing today are truly an interesting addition to any outfit. They feel like I should be in the movie TRON, or an eighties advertisement for a computer. They also have the look of that old school Windows screen saver.

I purchased them at Goldenpoint a European hosiery store in 2009, I think they might be the brand Sisi but I didn't keep as detailed a record as I do now.

Pretty Polly-House of Holland Bandanna Knee Tights!

These fabulous House of Holland Bandana Knee tights are perfect for a snowy March day! When I first woke up this morning I was surprised at the inch of snow that had dusted the ground just as spring has arrived. My thoughts immediately went to the Daffodils in my front garden and if they would be able to stand up to the weather.

Many of the House of Holland collection feature a "bandana detail".  I love the bandana knee detail, it reminds me of  Dexy's Midnight Runner's "Come on Eileen" music video. Then after viewing the music video several times along with A-Ha Take on Me and having a mini dance party, I completely got distracted from the point of my blog posting. Needless to say in the "Come on Eileen" music video they do not wear the bandanas around their knees only around their necks. I do remember putting bandanas every where, when I was a kid in the 80's just like Punky Brewster who did in fact wear them around her knees.

So today's outfit and tights pairing was a Punky Brewster throwback-
Complete with bandanas around the knee!

Casual Weekend in Calzedonia Floral Tights in Navy Blue

I never really like the color "Navy" especially when it comes to tights. They always make me think of a school uniform, or Horsey Bristish women- So when Nathan showed me this particular pair of Calzedonia tights I wasn't exactly thrilled. They are right on trend for the spring 2011 season, with an all over floral pattern.  I began to wonder if I would have anything to wear with them. I don't wear blue other then denim and I think I might only own one blue shirt...

This weekend we had unseasonably warm weather. I am thrilled with the upcoming seasonal change-  it will be great to move from the heavy opaque patterned tights and into the whimsical floral and open weave patterns! I can't wait to reveal all of my newest spring 2011 additions most of them from Calzedonia of course...

So imagine my amazement when I found the perfect outfit to showcase my floral tights that I now really like despite the fact they are navy! I have the same pair in another color way... By pairing the navy tights with a simple denim skirt, grey sweater and boots one of my newest pair of Calzedonia Tights were ready for a pre-spring debut!

Purple and Grey Part 3

Sorry for the delay in posts, Max has been under the weather and Nathan is traveling in China...

This is the final outfit in my Grey and Purple montage outfit number 5. I didn't post Sunday's outfit, and instead of my usual tights, I wore a pair of Calzedonia men's socks. I will devote an entire post the amazing selection of Men's socks that Calzedonia carries, but again that is an entire other post...

This outfit always makes me feel like something out of Mad Men. A total Peggy Olsen look. The tights are a so ordinary for me, a sort of cross between a mesh and fishnet. A little diamond pattern, in a warm grey color. I used to be totally into fishnets before I discovered European patterned hosiery. I have fishnets in almost every color you can imagine, from hot pink, to baby pink and even tinkerbell green. That will also be another post.

I picked this find up at Filene's Basement for $7.99. At the time I didn't have any grey tights, and I desperate for any pair I could find. This is the second time I have worn them, and it will be the last. I usually get at least 4 wears out of a lower price point, but sometimes there is a reason that they are at Filene's for $7.99 Oh well, its not like I don't have more grey tights...

Grey and Purple Madness Part 1

For the last few days I have worn nothing but grey and purple. Not on purpose I swear! I really do own other colors, but sometimes it feels comfortable to be in just one or two colors. Maybe I will be one of those people that only wears certain colors. Which isn't the worse thing in the world is it? There are tons of people who only wear black and no one thinks twice about that being unusual.

Purple is definitely my favorite color, it suits me and I am automatically drawn to it over any other color. If I had to pick a shade it would almost always be a warmish purple like the aubergine shade in the photo below day 1. In the colder months I am drawn to cooler purples like the mauve color in day 2 below.

Day 1

Day 1's grey tights are part of the samples I received from Jleana Calze, an Italian Hosiery manufacturer
that I am hoping to work with on developing my own line. They are the perfect shade of grey, very opaque not sure of the exact denier and have a vertical horizontal design.

Day 2

Day 2's tights are from Hansel from Basel a great little Indie brand that has a very hipster vibe with vintage twists. I really enjoy the color combos and unique look to their range. These tights are a thick knit, are very comfy and super warm. They sort of remind me of a pair of tights I would of worn as a kid.

I think it would be fun to continue on the trend of the two color look, so I will finish out the week in only grey and purple. Lucky for me I have at least 15 pairs of gray tights and 14 of purple, so stop by for round two of Grey and Purple Madness...
